Kærshovedgård Stories (graphic novel)
A RISO printed graphic novel by Små Broer. Profits from this book go to legal aid, dental care and everyday necessities for residents at Kærshovedgård Deportation Center.
Kærshovedgård Stories is a volunteer based activist effort – a graphic novel created through a long collaborative process between activists and artists inside and outside Kærshovedgård Deportation Center in Jutland, Denmark. It consists of 8 stories of rejected asylum seekers who are forced to live in the deportation center. The 8 stories are illustrated by professional cartoonists, and revised and worked through by the narrator, the cartoonist and the book's editors.
From Små Broer:
“The idea for the book arose out of a desire to inform the general population about the inhumane conditions rejected asylum seekers live under as a result of strictures in the Danish immigration policy. The Danish asylum system is deliberately made as difficult and unbearable to exist in as possible, and the legislation in the area balances on the edge of human rights and refugee conventions. With this book, we will present facts about how it is to live as a rejected asylum seeker in Denmark and create a counter-image to the distorted, racist narratives that are presented in the Danish media.
We are convinced that we can create progressive change together.”
